Jaleswor: The Chhath festival, a significant cultural event in the Mithila region, concluded with vibrant celebrations as devotees offered worship to the rising Sun in Mahottari and surrounding areas this morning.
On the fourth and final day of the festival, devotees in Mahottari, Dhanusha, Siraha, Saptari, Sunsari, Morang, Sarlahi, Rautahat, Bara, and Parsa participated in the concluding rituals. The festivities reached a crescendo as offerings of curd were presented to the rising Sun in rivers and ponds across the region.
In towns such as Jaleswor, Matihani, Suga, Gaushala, Pipara, Samsi, and Bardibas of Mahottari, as well as along popular rivers such as Birahi, Rato Maraha, Jungaha, Ankusi, and canals, the banks of ponds, lakes, and rivulets became the focal points for Chhath celebrations.
The festival, characterized by its emphasis on truth and non-violence, serves as a platform to foster compassion for all living creatures. Devotees demonstrated their devotion by worshipping the rising and setting suns, following an attractive system of prayers dedicated to the Sun God.
A significant turnout of devotees and enthusiasts graced the banks of ponds, rivers, rivulets, and lakes, contributing to the festive atmosphere that promotes goodwill, faith, and social harmony. Chhath, a unifying celebration, brings people from diverse backgrounds together to offer collective worship to the Sun God. The prevailing belief is that appeasing the Sun God during this festival brings happiness, prosperity, well-being, and longevity to family members.
